Barry Novick, the founder and CEO has spent his entire career (more than 40 years) creating and manufacturing luxury furs and outerwear. Barry grew up in the freezing city of Chicago, so he knows what winter is all about. That is why when we say warm, we mean it…..and every coat and jacket we make buttons right up to the neck or higher. We promise to keep you warm, even on the coldest days and frigid nights.
Blue Duck has become one of the largest manufacturers and wholesalers by producing and selling garments that look and fit great, at sensible prices. A majority of Blue Duck’s coats and jackets are produced in their own New York workrooms, allowing them to pay close attention to every step of the manufacturing process. The same careful attention goes into every single garment they sell, even imported items. Barry travels the world to bring the best fashion, quality, and value directly to your computer screen and ultimately to your door.
A few milestones on our path
Blue Duck is founded in the heart of the New York City garment center with a vision to bring the coolest and warmest outerwear to the market.
Their original collection was Americana inspired, women’s leather and wool American Indian blanket jackets (the fashion at the time) This was also the inspiration for the name Blue Duck, a traditional Indian name popularized in the popular western novel Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry
Their unique look was the creation of designer Richard Meyerson graduate of the Edmode School of design in Paris.
They started producing shearling coats and jackets for men and women from hides from American sheep. Very warm thick and heavy but very heavy. Good for aviator jackets like the B-3 crews wore during WWII as the airplanes were not heated…however not for great for women’s fashion garments but there were better things to come.
The introduction of hides from Iceland, more sheep in Iceland than people, very warm and much lighter in weight than the American skins but the fur or the wool as we call it in the business was not so soft and silky, but not bad and shearlings were becoming more and more fashionable each season
Blue Duck begins producing their shearlings exclusively from Spanish Merino Skins…. Light weight soft, supple really warm and durable. Blue Duck Trademarks” Micro-Shear Shearling Warmth With Out Weight” and at the same time the winter of 96 was one of the coldest and snowiest on record…. Blue Duck was on its way.
Blue duck adds two additional manufacturing facilities in New York City to supplement production from their main manufacturing center in Brooklyn. Blue Duck becomes the largest producer and wholesaler of fine shearlings in the USA.
Blue Duck as novelty furs and fur lined storm coats to its collection. With an expanded product line Blue Duck became a brand name in major stores across America and Canada.
Blue Duck jumps on the bandwagon and becomes an important supplier of high quality fur line and fur trimmed down coats and jackets.
